Life in a Maasai Village

Standing in front a a hut made by the village women from dung, these women watch as tourists are entertained by some of the local residents. It's a way of life to which they have become acustomed. The exchange of their nomadic life - less and less territory on which to roam and graze livestock - for more permanent living, has brought them closer to view for foreigners. They display their local customs, dance and bead-work for monetary gain and obtain stability. Fencing with thorny plants surround the village, protecting the families and livestock during the evening. All livestock are grazed out away from the village during the day. It's a job for the youth of the village.

Better to live here than to live in the slums of Nairobi.
